Between 2012 and 2014, pepper spray was used in facilities for young offenders in Calgary and Edmonton just once.
The teacher from Burlington, Ont. — who also worked as a teacher in Calgary — was convicted along with Indonesian teaching assistant Ferdinand Tjiong in 2014 on charges of abusing kindergarten students at the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), where the children of many expatriates, diplomats and wealthy Indonesians are enrolled.
The matter is being treated as suspicious and the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. The B.C. Coroners Service was also on scene.
The group was started five years ago by a veteran who found comfort in playing a guitar while dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). On their website, the organization said they’re striving “to meet the needs of veterans in crisis across Canada.”
Instead, she was beaten by members of the Bangladeshi military.
